The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has postponed its General Secretary handover ceremony that had been scheduled for June 19, 2026, pushing the event to June 24.
The announcement was made by the Office of the National Vice Chairman after what the party described as several requests from ministers currently attending engagements in Kyankwanzi.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the party said the decision was taken to enable the affected officials to participate in the event.
“Today, following a number of requests from Honorable Ministers who are currently attending engagements in Kyankwanzi, the National Vice Chairman of PLU, Michael Nuwagira Kaguta, has informed the general public that the General Secretary handover ceremony, which was scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed,” the statement said.
Michael Nuwagira Kaguta, popularly known as Toyota, confirmed that the ceremony will now take place on June 24, 2026.
“The ceremony will now take place on Wednesday, 24th June,” he announced.
The party called upon its members, supporters and stakeholders to take note of the changes and adjust their schedules accordingly.
“All members and stakeholders are advised to take note of this change and make the necessary arrangements accordingly,” the statement added.
The General Secretary handover is regarded as an important administrative event within the PLU, whose leadership has been strengthening party structures ahead of Uganda’s 2026 general elections.
As the party's chief administrative office, the General Secretary's docket is expected to play a key role in coordination, mobilization and implementation of the party's activities as political preparations intensify.
